Nicky your video is fantastic!!! The taping is very good the music the way you
put it together - everything! Bravo! You should sell this to Carnival for
tourists to view about Rio vacation. You know I was wondering if we could look
into broadcasting the Carnival to the US and Canada, What a way to see the
show, interview the people, the sights, I am wondering why people do not want
to promote it in US? Is it maybe all the black people that are in the parade?
I wonder if Brazil does not want to show outside their country. I wonder if
its because of the naked beautiful women!! LOL I think US is ready for this
show. It is hard to imagine this parade without seeing it live. Kinda like the
carnival at New Orleans. They don't broadcast that either. I wonder if it is
hard to sell the advertisers that people would watch it. You know everything
starts with a idea! Let me know what you think.

Bom Dia! Maravilhosa! Cidade Marvilhosa, Rio de Janeiro! We are watching
your DVD right now! My wife is CRAZY for ILHA GRANDE!!! We watched most of the
DVD yesterday. I was amazed that you were able to use your video camera in
Copacabana without problems! I've never tried that because my wife said it
would be a problem (safety/security). Any way you photography was outstanding
as usual. I like some of the narratives you added to the video presentation
(i.e. losing you cell phone in Rio). I encourage you to add more narratives to
you future presentations. I was surprised by the "street parade", I thought it
was more organized. The street parade reminded me a little of Brazil Day in
upper Manhattan, New York! I hope we can go back to New York for Brazil Day
this summer -- I'll try to make a DVD of the program. Last year we went but I
didn't have my video equipment together. Thanks again for sharing your trip
with us.

Congrats on a real professional job of filming the Big Parade there in Rio de Janeiro.
I knew you had some catching up to do plus trying to put everything together.
It's great when you are filming events live and make it into a DVD. The video
clips you have on your website are excellent better than what I saw on TV
Globo. You must have been exhausted after filming almost all night.

Montreal. I was there many years ago. Love the city! I'm a great hockey fan.
Enjoyed seeing the old greats (Beliveau, Dryden, Tremblay, Ferguson etc.) at
the old forum. While in Rio I attended a samba school rehearsal (Varidou).
Brought back a couple of their tee shirts. Again thanks for the dvd. Hope to

Hey, If you have never been to Rio this is a great site for information, scenery and a taste of what adventure lies ahead. If you have been it's a refreshing of everything that took place. So it's a win/win. Thanks for the helicopter tour ride (we never took when we were there but wished we had) and the great photos of the city and all the bays. And especially the carnival photos to bring back all the memories we had of a great night at the Sambadrome. For anyone who has not been I say along with all the rest, it is definitely one of the 100 things you must do in your life. Nothing beats a night at the Carnival.

Hi Nicky - very nice report but I do not fully agree with you. Ever
experienced two gunmen at your car (notably in an upper class area at noon
time) telling you that they will kill you if you do one wrong move?
Robbing in the city has doubled (and in some areas tripled) since 2004.
A very visible consequence of cutting government spending for public security
in 2005. Your gave some important tips for tourists: I would like to add
one: try to stay calm if you become a victim and don't ever try to stick to
your camera or other belongings - don't argue. The bandits often are as
nervous as you are... Rio has an unbeatable scenery and the Cariocas are
warm and welcoming people. During the Carnival period there will be a
lot more security presence at the famous beaches to protect the tourists.
Therefore chances are good that the visitor will experience an unforgettable
holiday. However, one should realize that one is traveling into a city
with a steep social inequality which is the main cause for the violence in and
around Rio. Awareness therefore is very important.

scaring us. I kept saying every where.. New York, New Orleans, Los
Angeles all big cities have an element of danger. You have eased my

I really appreciate your site, honestly. You did a great job.
My name is John Ramalho, I was born in Brazil and lived most of my life there.
I remember fond nights spending with friends and just coming back at 4 am.
One place you should visit next time is Barra da Tijuca. Don't stay stuck just
in the traditional spots. Also, if given a chance visit the south of Brazil,
there are areas there that up till a few decades ago didn't even speak Portuguese ... but instead spoke Italian or German. The areas colonized by the
Italians normally are great wine producers while the German sections are known
for their chocolate productions ... the views are beautiful ... they have some
very nice canyons as well.
One thing that Brazil has trouble with... is they never really tried working
on their touristically image. While there plenty of potential for tourism, the
government never did prioritize that much. The only news you hear outside of
the country is whenever something bad happens.

for about 3 months as my husband is stationed here. Brazilians are very
helpful & friendly. Before I came here, I read & heard lots of bad things
