Rio de Janeiro Botnical Garden

(Text from my 2005 trip)

As a Montreal resident, I found the Botanical Garden here and that of Rio's quite interesting. There is no sense of comparison because both places carry charm in their own way.

The Jardin Botanico in Rio was originally created to adapt to the Brazilian climate. The trees are very tall and there are a lot of palm trees. It is very relaxing to take a walk under the shadow of different trees, walking in the greenhouse to see the orchid and watching birds taking a bath in the pond.

There are many big fountains and sculptures, six fountains date back as far as 1901. In 1992 the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden was identified by UNESCO a reserved area for conservation. You can take the bus on S.W. Copacabana with a sign Jardin Botanico and will drop you right at the entrance. If you happen to go by car there is another entrance not very far from each other. (back exit as well.) It cost you 8 Brazilian Real per visit and you can visit the park at your own speed. Just relax and take your time to explore every corner of the garden. You will surely enjoy your visit and bring home a lot of pictures and good memories. On my visit I spotted a big lizard crossing my paths (no harm) and decided to tape it for your viewing enjoyment.

Buses: 574, 572, 584 Admission: R$ 4.00
