The Montreal International Jazz
Festival meets Cirque Du Soleil
As promise, I have taped
this year's International Jazz Festival closing day
with the Cirque du Soleil mega show for you.
Yesterday afternoon I went to the Pierre Elliott
Trudeau International Airport to welcome and pickup
VTer
Emile St. Claire who came from Los Angeles to
visit Montreal. She is coming for the new exhibit
devoted to the French artist Jean Cocteau at the
Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She is just on
time to catch the last day of this year's Jazz
International Festival.
We came to the
festival site just on time for the opening of the
show. We were at the corner of Saint-Urbain and
Ste-Catherine streets and would like to access to the
terrace of the Place des Arts which I have an
appointment with Krystal Pascual and her mom but
there is no way to move in that sea of people. I had
an idea to let Emile come close to the securities
people blocking the access "Entrée des artistes"
steps which will conduct us to the terrace I
mentioned above which is occupied by Radio Canada
(French CBC television). Emile handed the microphone
and the VT printed logo (I used at the airport to
facilitate our first meeting since none of us know
each other) to the security guy and told him that
she comes from L.A. and we wish that we can have
access to the terrace to have a better view in order
to tape the event. Unfortunately the trick did not
work this time. The security guy asked Emile if she
has a pass (that has to be applied 2 weeks ago) for
the access which unfortunately we don't have.
Sometimes ago this trick worked after a candid and
brief conversation that Gita and I had with the
security folks, but this time we failed.
We went back fully
contended and waded to the sea of people in the
street. I do what I can do. Another unfortunate
incident was Gita's availability for the introduction and closing (she has to be with her mom
at the rehabilitee center at the hospital since she
can't get anyone to replace her during the weekend)
and Krystal Pascual was on the site, she called me
on my cell once but when I was enable to reach my
cell phone the line just cut off and she never
called me back. I rang her twice but there were no
answers. Well sorry folks, no intro and wrap up for
this clip. At the end of the show when the crowd
started to disperse, one family passed by in front
of me, a woman cheered me with a nice smile and her
husband (Michel Lemay) told me that during the show he happily
watched my camera monitor all the long and wished to
be closer to the stage because he could hardly see anything from where we were standing. I invited him
to give us his comments of the show and he nicely
accepted which you will see at the end of the clip.
My own comments:
Nice show, great weather (25º C / 77º F) that is
another element that contributed to the success of
the show. The sound system is very good every
where. Boy, it was great to watch the spectacular
surprise fireworks on top
of the surrounding buildings, a signature of Cirque
du Soleil for everybody's enjoyment! A big credit to
the Montreal International Jazz Festival and Cirque du Soleil organizers. Nice and controlled Montrealer crowd as usual. I love it.
Well I know that you
are saying "Hey, to much blah blah Nicky, show us
the clip!!!"
- Sorry folks!.... and now, Ladies, Gentlemen, here
is the clip you are waiting for.
Hope you enjoy!
