Montreal International Merengue
Festival
July 24 and 25, 2004
At Park Jean-Drapeau (formerly known as
island park or Parc des Îles).
Every year the Montreal's Latin Americans
congregate in this big and colorful event of rhythms
and pulsating beat.
This 8th International Merengue Festival ( the
rhythm is gonna get ya! ) was a great success with
crowds of 20,000.
The first night, Jose Alberto El Canario and his
band from New York delight the public with their
great performance and for the second evening from
the Dominican Republic the well known Hector Acosta
El Torrito
explode with performance followed by rambunctious
cheers from the crowd. The rioutous blur and
excitement from the watchers were so loud, it is
unbelievable such a sea of adulation very much felt
from across the audience.
How do the performers feel about it? To describe it
more succinctly, we have both interviews with Jose
Alberto El Canario and Hector Acosta El Torrito for you.
• First I would like to thank you the Montreal
International Merengue Festival organizer for giving
us the full access to the site including the stage.
Thank you for Jose Alberto El Canario and Hector
Acosta El Torrito
who granted us an interview, also thanks to all of
you VTers whom come to visit my page giving me more
motivation to look for more tips here and there to
present to you. DITTO to VT which is
instrumental in giving us this opportunity to
exchange our travel tips and posting many nice
pictures around the world. Indeed, a lot of travel
insights is gained from the VT exposures worldwide.
Again, our sincere thanks.
• Also from Célia and me, we would like to thank
you the Montreal Latino Communities and others who
came from other provinces and states and gave us
their interviews with great enthusiasm. This is
becoming out of proportion because at first we
originally would like to present to you, VT's
members some highlights of local activities but we
never expected as well the degree of enthusiasm and
affections that gave us. If your interview is not
included in this following video clip or if we just
presented a small portion of it, is because of our
lack of space hosted on our server. Anyhow to
recognize your willing participation in our
interview, if you were one of the interviewees and
would like to receive your complete footage, do not
hesitate to contact me and I will send
you by surface mail your footage DVD disc.
Please note that only the footage which shows your
participation will be sent. If you are
interested about the completed 2 days edited footage
please communicate with the festival organizers.
I will not, under any circumstances, release the
full edited version. It is the organizers' rights
to issue one.
• Special thanks to Mr. Pierre Bourque - Erstwhile
Mayor of Montreal, Mr. Julio Torres, General
Producer of the Montreal International Merengue
Festival, Mrs. Yanira Rowdón, Coordinator, Mr. Luis Megares, Coordinator,
José Alberto El Canario, Hector Acosta El
Torrito, Félix Rosario, Wenceslao
Rosario and all the
interviewees.
Hope you enjoy!
