Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2006

Rio Carnival is undoubtedly the grandest and the best carnival in the world.

The Carnival glistens with international participation and still retains the cultural magic Brazil can offer for the world. The multi million dollar budget of this annual festival is one proof that it is the brightest shining jewel of Brazil's love for festive and joyous celebrations. See it for yourselves by viewing the video of the recent Carnival held February 2006.

The video is courtesy of John Sherwin. In 2005 he and his wife planned to go for the 2006 Rio carnival and during his research he landed on my web site.  He wrote me an email to introduce himself and requested some information to prepare his trip.  We exchanged emails since and became good friends for the common interest: the carnivals abductions.  He brought his camera, had the video taken and sent me the raw materials.  Like many people who went to see the Carnival at the Rio Sambadrome, we were never prepared to video, to bring blank tapes and to charge batteries for 10 hours of sheer excitement.

The music alone and the pounding samba beat as the parade unravels before your eyes give everybody the chill and the adrenalin pumping to joyous rhythm of dance and singing. You don't know how to dance? Don't worry you will soon discover your body gyrating and shaking for few minutes.  Pretty soon you swell with the crowd and the night is yours as if tomorrow never comes. It's very contagious.  The sheer magnitude of the parade and the excitement building up certainly made the 10 hours parade just a blink in your eyes.  Pure magic and excitement.

After the parade, you may wonder how you lasted that long- sitting, dancing, eating, singing and not thinking of your personal problems.

Afterall we came to Rio to enjoy what life's best has to offer.

Most attendees of the Carnival yearn to go back again and again. The hundred dollar worth of tickets that range from $200 and up was certainly worth it.  Every moment a treasure to remember a lifetime.

Thanks to John Sherwin for his kind thoughts of sending me this 2006 carnival video to share his memories for every one's enjoyment.

Hope you enjoy!

Nicky
